Amparo Sard
Galerie Isa is pleased to announce an exhibition with iconic Spanish artist Amparo Sard. The exhibition opens on the 18th November 2014 and will continue till the 17th January 2015. This will be the first exhibition of the Spaniard in India.
Amparo Sard was born in Mallorca in 1973. She has a Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, of which she currently is a Professor. She has been granted amongst others, the Deutsche Bank International Award in 2000. The artist lives and works between Barcelona and Mallorca.
Amparo Sard’s work is an intimate reflection on human nature, on doubt and anguish in human beings. It is, to a large extent, an analysis on human existence, a plastic meditation about contemporary identity, always more uncertain and to redefine, between indecision and mistake. Sard employs the most poetic and effective technique to express human confinement: void on white. Through thousands of painstaking hand perforations, Sard enhances the conflicts and anguish caused by indecision. Her works have a muted, and often neutral colour palette and the theme of piercing is very prominent in her images. By working with negative space and punctures, Sard develops a type of personal iconography that explores identity and femininity.
Sard’s artworks can be found in numerous notable collections, such as the MoMa,New York; Guggenheim,New York; Deutsche Bank Berlin & New York, amongst many other institutional and private collections.
Sard’s recent institutional projects are La Otra (The Other), presented in the ABC Museum, Madrid,2013; Pareidolia at Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Mallorca,2013; In the spring of 2015 Sard will open a major solo show at the Museo d’arte contemporanea (Macro museum) in Rome
