ART Mumbai – 2023

Galerie ISA is delighted to participate in the inaugural edition of ART Mumbai 2023. On display are works by Louise Despont, Santiago Giralda, Anoushka Mirchandani, Arthur Lemaitre, David Murphy, David Brian Smith and Ricky Vasan.

Figurative works on view include paintings by Indian origin artists Anoushka Mirchandani and Ricky Vasan. While Mirchandani mainly focuses on self-portraits, both artists document the immigrant experience and conversations around identity, through strong narratives and an autobiographical lens.

Multiple iterations of classic landscapes are seen in the works of Santiago Giralda, Arthur Lemaitre, David Murphy and David Brian Smith. For Giralda’s paintings, it’s the merging of photography and memory; Lemaitre uses classical drawing and oil painting, operating at the border of realism and surrealism; Murphy’s panels are made with an etching needle which scratches the surface as if it is guiding a path in the landscape, almost like ploughing a field, or perhaps weaving at the loom; Brian Smith connects landscapes to family through a kaleidoscopic lens of the countryside. Louise Despont’s collages and drawings on antique canvas fall somewhere between diagrams and invocations and are meditations on the interrelatedness of humans and nature, tracing a current that oscillates between the microscopic and the cosmic.

In this showcase, Galerie ISA brings together a roster of its artists from across the globe with works spanning techniques, traditions and styles, all united in their quest for breaking down traditional social constructs, exploring evolving identities and changing environments.
