Masoom Kshetrimayum

Masoom Kshetrimayum (b. 1985, Gujarat, lives and works in New Delhi, India) holds a Post Diploma in Painting from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara. She observes patterns of perception via a flurry of marks, layering colored pencil and engraving to create works in constant movement. In a fluid dynamic of winds and grasses, the works capture the contrast between cooling waters and scorched earth, and in turn, the flux between atmosphere and terra firma. Amidst a sea of flowering wheat, they conjure a contemplative space where one can no longer distinguish between the real and the imagined, affirming that the landscape remains ever ripe with human metaphor.

Central to her practice is a process rooted in repetition and attentiveness. Lines are physically engraved into the surface of the paper, creating marks that cannot be erased. These traces become metaphors for memories, emotions, and lived experiences that accumulate over time and leave lasting impressions. Through drawing, engraving, and incised mark-making, Kshetrimayum creates works that exist between abstraction and representation, where personal memories, imagined spaces, and observations of nature converge.
